Position Summary: The goal of this full-time, seasonal position is to develop skills to become environmentally responsible mentors for the urban Milwaukee community. This position will experience the “nuts and bolts” of a dynamic, fast-growing nonprofit organization including: 1) ensuring a positive experience for visitors by helping to coordinate the reception area, giving tours and greeting visitors to the Center 2) organizing, maintaining and preparing adventure equipment for our equipment lending benefit 3) assisting with visitors, programs and general operations and 4) other projects as needed. This position is located at Riverside Park but there may be opportunities to spend time at our Menomonee Valley and/or Washington Park branches as well.
Qualifications: High school diploma or GED and some college course work are required. Excellent oral and written communication skills are needed, along with a warm, friendly and outgoing personality. Applicants should be well organized with an attention to detail, able to commit to quality customer service, and familiar with using computers, audio-visual systems, printers and copiers. Physical ability with reasonable accommodation required for various activities, such as lifting bikes (25 pounds) and canoes (70 pounds). Candidates with equipment maintenance skills, especially bike maintenance experience will be given priority. Must be willing to work weekends and some evenings throughout the summer. This position reports to the Visitor Services Manager.
Compensation: $200/week stipend. Plus, if you are in school, we will provide supporting documentation for independent study credit, if applicable. Residents of Milwaukee County may qualify for workforce development compensation, which is higher than the stipend.
